eMoviePoster.com - The most trusted vintage original movie poster site & the only major online auction with no buyers premiums!
Did You Know... that we rely on dozens of experts for help in identifying posters?
Return to Did You Know ArchiveAdded: 08/10/2015 UPDATED: 8/10/2015
Unlike every other major movie poster auction house, we auction LOTS of very different
types of movie paper collectibles, including ones from dozens of countries from all over the globe! You may wonder how we are able to describe so many unusual items so accurately (including ones named in non-Roman alphabet letters, like Russian
Cyrillic letters, or Japanese hiragana and katakana syllabaries) or why you may have received an "update to an auction you are bidding on" e-mail
after the auction began, giving added information about an auction for an obscure item, and thought "How in the world did they know THAT"?
Part of the answer to the above is that the eMoviePoster.com team of "describers" is constantly learning everything we can about movie posters,
including how to determine originality, exact release dates for undated posters, and so on (Bruce and Phil alone have a combined total of well over half a century of movie poster knowledge!). The other part
is that we rely on many dozens of experts for help in identifying posters (for originality, artist information, etc, and sometimes, in the case of
some non-U.S. posters, to help translate the titles and what else is written on those posters).
We often contact these experts before items begin at auction asking them questions (but only after we have researched the question ourselves as we
never want to waste anyone's time). Other times, experts and collectors alike will contact us while auctions are running to inform us of information
we didn't know or may have overlooked. We take the information we receive and verify it against our collective knowledge and vast movie poster
database (and sometimes by contacting yet other experts), and then correct our auctions. In this way, we are able to have astoundingly accurate
descriptions of the items we auction.
It is important to note that we don't only want help with currently running items! WE JUST AS MUCH WANT CORRECTIONS OF ANY SORT ON ANY OF THE MORE
THAN ONE MILLION ITEMS IN OUR AUCTION HISTORY DATABASE AT
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archive.html!
When someone sends a correction on an item we sold in the past, then (once we determine it is correct), we then look up all the past buyers of
those items, and email each of them telling them exactly what the mistake was, and we offer each of them the option to return the item for a full
refund, including the shipping, so they lose nothing. We do this even if the sale occurred ten or more years ago (and it is easy to do, because we
retain email addresses of every buyer, with the exact items they bought).
If they DO return the item, the record is deleted, and we re-auction that, identifying it correctly. If they say they want to keep it (either
because they knew it was a re-release, or because they feel the price was fine, even for the re-release) then we change the record to reflect it is a
re-release. We realize this level of accuracy would not be possible without the help of our customers and experts in the hobby,
and we offer a big "thank you" to EVERYONE who has helped in ANY way.
We are always looking for more experts on various topics which could be anything from identifying the person pictured
in a still, to helping translate titles or what else is written on those posters, to informing us that an item we're offering is actually a re-release,
etc. If YOU consider
yourself to be an "expert" on ANY subject and would like to help us with the occasional question, please
e-mail Phillip details of where your
expertise lies and we will put you on our "experts list".
BUT EVEN IF YOU DO NOT CONSIDER YOURSELF TO BE AN "EXPERT", you can still help! If you ever see a mistake in ANY of our auctions (current ones or old ones, even ones going back 25 years!) or even just suspect there is a mistake, please e-mail us about the specific auction by clicking the "Ask a Question" link found at the top of
each individual auction's page and let us know. It will only take you a minute or two to do this for each one, and within a few hours, we will review what you say and we will either revise the auction to reflect the
correct information OR we will ask you for more information OR we'll explain what we think otherwise.
And a giant "thank you" to ALL of the many hundreds of people who have helped make our auctions the most accurate there are, and who have
helped make our AUCTION HISTORY DATABASE the very best such database ANYWHERE on the Internet!
