Did you know... that even though we don't accept ANY lower value consignment items at all (even for bulk lots), we STILL get quite a few carloads of consignments delivered to us?
Return to Did You Know ArchiveAdded: 07/01/2024 You surely know
we no longer accept ANY lower value consignment items at all (even for
bulk lots). SEE THE SECTION ABOVE ON THIS IF YOU SOMEHOW MISSED THIS
"NEWS"! But did you also know that we STILL get quite a few
carloads of consignments delivered to us? That's because there are LOTS
of collectors with VERY large collections, and they are looking for a
great way to sell their "better" items all at once, and NOT receive a
low wholesale price for them. And the absolute best way to do that is through
us at eMoviePoster.com!
If this applies to you, read the below recent exchange of emails
between us and a consignor looking to deliver a carload:
"I live a few states away from you and am considering a trip to
West Plains to drop off a fairly large group of items for consignment. After
reading over your instructions about not accepting items with value less than
$30 (in nice condition), I'm having some trouble editing what I can/should
bring.
First, on 8x10 stills. Must each and every still have minimum $30
value or might a lot of 4 stills have that value? Second, the same issue with
lobby cards?
Finally and most important, I'm having trouble estimating the
value of a number of my items. Some obviously exceed a $30 value but a lot
might exceed that value to ME but not to you folks. For instance I have
some oversize black & white personality posters from the 1960s that I'd say
were upwards of $50 each to me, but I have no idea what someone else might say
about them.
Also I have a collection of Bruce's movie poster books I'd like
to include? I very much appreciate your input! Your operation is the best
around!"
HERE IS HOW I
REPLIED:
"You are welcome to bring your items, if you give us a couple of days
notice. You can drop off Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 11 AM, or 2 PM to 4 PM.
We have done this hundreds of times, and we can have you unloaded and
quickly on your way soon after you arrive!
When you come, please be sure to bring the filled out "Consignor Reference
Sheet" from here:
https://www.emovieposter.com/print/?page=consignor_reference_sheet)
On stills and lobby cards, they need to have the minimum value PER TITLE.
So if you have 5 stills or 3 lobby cards from a single title (all from the
same release) that have the minimum combined value, then those are fine to
bring. But you CAN'T combine different titles! So NOT "5 Bette
Davis lobby cards" or whatever.
On HOW to value, obviously one GREAT resource is our Auction History at
https://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archive.html
But you have to use common sense. Always keep it sorted by "Date Sold Newest
First" because something that sold for enough 10 years ago but no longer
does is NOT acceptable. And if something ONCE sold for $50 but
mostly sells for $15 to $25, then that too is NOT acceptable.
And MOST important, remember that items in NICE condition need to be
solidly $30+ each, but items in LESSER condition need to be solidly $50+
each. And you MUST compare "apples to apples and oranges to oranges". An
item that sells for $60 in nice condition is likely not valuable enough to
bring in lesser condition.
And when something seems solidly $30+ to YOU, but our past sales indicate
otherwise, you have to go with the past sales.
On your oversize black & white personality posters from the 1960s these are
generally fine to bring in nice condition, but they don't do well with tape
stains, tears or pinholes, so bear that in mind.
On the books I published, I gave away LOTS of them to our buyers
as bonuses, so do not bring those.
BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT NO
ONE IS PERFECT ON CHOOSING, AND AS LONG AS YOU MAKE AN HONEST EFFORT TO
STICK TO THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WE WILL LIKELY HAVE NO PROBLEM. But "if in
doubt", DON'T bring it!
Please confirm you received this email and let me know your plans, and I
look forward to you coming.
Thanks very much
Bruce"
So if YOU have a lot of consignments that meet our
minimum values, know it IS fine to hand delver them. And it DOES save much
time packing, may well be less expensive than shipping, and means there won't
be any damage along the way!
