eMoviePoster.comDid you know... that our switch to a bi-weekly format has greatly improved our regular auctions, our bulk lot auctions AND our major auctionsReturn to Did You Know Archive Added: 10/26/2020 When we switched to bi-weekly auctions at the start of 2020 (after 21 solid YEARS of weekly auctions), our main motivation was to "slow down the pace" of our operation, not only for our employees, who were living in a "pressure cooker" with thrice weekly deadlines always looming over us, but ALSO to improve the auctions for our bidders, many of whom complained that it was either hard to keep up with our thrice weekly auctions, or that doing so was taking over their lives, or both! But the switch has had some unexpected great benefits! This is because having fewer auctions meant I could finally much more strictly enforce our long standing rule that items for single sale needed a realistic minimum retail value of $20. I had had that rule in place for many years, but because we needed to fill three auctions every week, I often had to finish out many auctions with lesser items, ones that really should have been in bulk lots. But now, with only every other week auctions to fill, I AM enforcing the "$20 rule" far more, and that has meant that our "regular" single sale auctions have seen a MAJOR upswing in overall quality, and that has caused our bidders to make a far greater effort to check out ALL the items in each set of auctions! And because our bulk lots now OFTEN contain single items with values of $10 or $15, that has caused FAR more bidding and interest in our bulk lots! And I have carried this shift over to our major auctions as well. I don't decide solely on a minimum value however, when deciding if an item should go in a regular auction or a major auction. I instead more decide based on rarity and desirability, and that has greatly improved the selection in our recent major auctions as well, and also narrowed the selection, so that bidders can more easily check over every single item. We are VERY pleased with how our auctions have been in 2020, and we have heard lots of praise for them from both our bidders AND our consignors! But what will 2021 hold? It is too early to say, because unlike most auctions, we DON'T rely on a huge backlog of items we pretended to auction in the past, that we bring out again and again. We never know what we will be auctioning until our new consignments arrive. So the future of eMoviePoster.com lies in the hands of its current and future consignors!
