eMoviePoster.comDid you know... that we will be switching to bi-weekly auctions and we have already set our schedule for 2020?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 09/30/2019 Last week, I was
away and did not send a club message, but I DID send an email to all the
club members telling them about the upcoming big switch in our auctions
(starting 1/7/20), which is that starting that date, ALL our auctions will now
last two weeks instead of one (meaning we will have exactly HALF the
number of auctions we used to), and that we would also have SIX Major
Auctions in 2020, as opposed to our usual five! If you primarily buy sub-$20 items, then this WILL have an effect on you, because, since we will be having far fewer auctions, we will now auction FAR fewer sub-$20 items IN SINGLE AUCTIONS. But there will still surely be a fair number of items selling for $1 to $19, because every auction WILL still start at $1 with no reserve and no buyers premium. But we will be far more selective in what we include in our single item auctions. If an item figures to realistically auction for under $15, it can ONLY be included in bulk lots (or returned to the consignor). THIS IS NOTHING NEW, AS WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD THIS RULE! It is just that we did not enforce it all the time, because, since we had so many auctions, we often allowed many sub-$20 items to go as single item auctions, because we had the space open. But NOW, with half as many auctions open, we WON'T have any space open, so sub-$20 items will only be auctioned in bulk lots (or returned to the consignor). And this means that the quality of our bulk lots will greatly increase as well, since they will contain FAR more $10 to $20 items than ever before. And we will also greatly decrease running bulk lots that themselves realistically retail for less than $20, since they are a waste of our time. So those of you who primarily buy sub-$20 items will still see LOTS of them in our auctions (maybe more than ever)! The only difference is that now they will be primarily in bulk lots (which often offer far greater values over buying items one at a time). How will this affect consignors? STARTING IMMEDIATELY, ALL CONSIGNMENTS NEED TO CONSIST OF EITHER SOLELY $20+ ITEMS, OR THEY NEED TO CONTAIN A MINIMUM OF $200 OF MATERIAL OVERALL (at a realistic retail). We have found that most consignors send excellent groups of items that are well worth auctioning. But there are some people who send boxes or tubes of much lesser material that realistically retails for $25 or $50, and those consignments take up a huge amount of our time, and they yield us very little, and slow us down in auctioning better items from other consignors. So we are making the above change to raise the quality of consignments (and note that our $200 minimum OR all items $20 and over, is FAR lower than other major auctions, some of whom have $5,000 minimums!). Below is how our 2020 schedule will look. Next week I will "fill in" all the slots that say "regular bi-weekly auctions" with the actual types of items we will be auctioning over the entire YEAR! Of course, all of us (bidders, consignors, and those of us here at eMoviePoster.com) will need some time to get used to the new auctions, but I am 100% convinced that after a few months of the "new schedule", EVERYONE will be saying, "Why didn't you do this years ago"?
