eMoviePoster.comDid You Know... why many dealers choose to consign to eMoviePoster.com rather than selling those items themselves?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 10/24/2016 We have just announced that very long time leading French movie poster dealer Dominique Besson has decided to consign his amazing collection of U.S. one-sheets to eMoviePoster.com, to auction them in our December Major Auction. It surely occurs to you to wonder why he did not choose to auction or sell them himself, as does regularly with incredible auctions of French movie posters (usually on eBay). This is nothing unusual! It is an "open secret" that almost EVERY leading dealer of vintage movie paper is either an occasional (or frequent) consignor to eMoviePoster.com! And this has been happening for quite some time (in fact, five years ago we commissioned the below comic strip from ace cartoonist Erik Andressen to explain why this occurred so often even then). And in the five years since, the rate of dealers consigning has increased even more, both in the number of dealers who do, and in the quantities they consign. Why has it increased? A big reason is that eBay has continued to implode. They are overrun with repros, fakes sold as originals, and massively overpriced originals that never sell. They do nothing to police the bad and crooked sellers, and a collector who has a bad experience with one seller may well say "I am done with eBay", which is massively unfair to all the great and honorable sellers, but that still happens. Amazingly, in the face of declining sales, eBay has continued to raise their rates, and even more amazing, they hassle the honest sellers far more than the dishonest ones! So many former regular eBay sellers have turned to eMoviePoster.com to handle their auction items, and many are amazed to find that, thanks to the higher prices we often receive, they often net MORE for their items letting us auction them, and WE do all the work and deal with all the hassles of being an online seller! You also might wonder, what about other auctions? We have a steady stream of consignors who say "I have tried Auction House X, but I had bad experiences with them, and now I am going with you, because I have never had a problem with you as a buyer or as a consignor", and we are sure that also accounts for a lot of dealers choosing to go with us (especially because we charge lower commission than every other major auction does at EVERY price level, and we get higher prices overall, when you compare like items). Once upon a time, a dealer could have an inventory of 5,000 or 10,000 items (or even much more) and count on a steady stream of sales of those items each month, whether through their eBay Store, or their brick and mortar store, or whatever. But now, those channels of selling have dried up quite a bit, and many of those people have starting going through their items, and sending large numbers of slow moving items to us, thus freeing up cash to put towards fasting moving inventory (as detailed in our comic strip!). So if YOU are a dealer who has a portion of your inventory you no longer want to keep, or, like Dominique Besson, have a personal collection you want to liquidate, please consider joining the many hundreds of other dealers who have consigned that material to eMoviePoster.com! We will make sure to auction those items in the best possible way, and you will get the most possible money for your material, while doing no work at all!
