eMoviePoster.comDid You Know... that there is no movie poster museum anywhere in the U.S.?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 10/17/2016 You would think there would be one! But this has been tried and failed several times. One of the most notable times was when Debbie Reynolds launched her museum in Las Vegas, but it sadly was not successful. Now given that the movies are one of the world's foremost industries, and that a major portion of Los Angeles'
revenue derives from it, you would THINK there would be a world-class movie museum in Los Angeles. But there isn't. And given that EVERY
other major form of printed art and photographs sells for staggering amounts of money, you would THINK there would be a world-class movie
poster museum ANYWHERE! What is SO sad about this is that (aside from all of us not having such a place to visit and be awe-struck by its contents) is that even the very best posters are still most SO affordable (when contrasted to any other art, antique, or collectible). For the most part, even the very finest movie posters can be obtained for under $100,000, each, and many are under $20,000 each, and this is the very "best of the best"! By contrast, there are now lots of million dollar baseball cards and comic books, and top works of fine art now sell for hundreds of millions for a single painting! I would say that for an outlay of no more than a couple of million dollars, any museum could assemble a wonderful collection of hundreds of the best vintage posters. And remember that "antique" is usually defined as an item over 100 years old. Well there are now a number of "antique" movie posters, and every year we add quite a few more, and in just 23 years EVERY poster from the 1930s will be an "antique", and no longer a "collectible"!
