eMoviePoster.comDid You Know... that legendary movie poster, comic book and Mad Magazine artist, Jack Davis, passed away this week?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 08/01/2016 RIP Jack Davis, who just passed away a few days ago at the age of 91. I first learned of his work as a young child in the late 1950s when I first saw his work in Mad Magazine. In the late 1960s I discovered the EC comics that had been published by Bill Gaines (the publisher of Mad) and since in that earlier lifetime I was a major comic book dealer, I instantly fell in love with Mr. Davis' incredible work (especially on the E.C. horror comics)!
I was lucky enough to co-organized the 1972 E.C. Fan Addict Convention, and in preparation for that, we (Ron Barlow and myself) interviewed all the E.C. artists for memories of each
other, and EVERY one spoke in glowing terms of Jack, both as an artist AND as a human being. The following three years, Ron and I
published 12 full-color reprints of EC Comics, and we made sure to include several wonderful Jack Davis stories! You likely know his work, but if not, here are just a very few of the great images from the above link, so you can see that he really was one of the greatest movie poster artists ever (and one of a very select few who got to always sign his work):
