Did You Know... that the Post Office and other carriers blamed high oil prices when they drastically raised their rates over the past decade?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 01/25/2016 Many of our customers outright HATE the the Post Office and other carriers, and sometimes it is hard to argue with them. Yes, they almost always get their packages where they are intended to go, and often in a reasonable amount of time, but they keep raising their prices, and those raises are FAR above the general rise in inflation. Between 2000 and 2014, the average rates more than TRIPLED! When pressed for why that was, the Post Office and the other carriers squarely put the blame on surging fuel costs, and indeed, over those 14 years, oil went from around $27 a barrel to around $87 a barrel, more than tripling, so that SEEMED like it made sense. But NOW, in 2016, oil prices have plunged all the way down to $30 a barrel, and yet the Post Office and the other carriers just announced yet ANOTHER major price increase, this one around 15% on average! So obviously they were lying all along, and oil prices had nothing to do with it. And what about the quality service the past few years? Go to this link, Did you know... We have not raised our "flat rate" shipping prices on our auctions for over two years, but now that we have been hit with yet another giant price increase from all the carriers (which took effect last week) we will have to next week raise those "flat rate" shipping prices on our auctions.
