eMoviePoster.comDid You Know... that we are scheduling four major auctions for 2016 instead of the six we did in 2015?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 01/18/2016 Last year (when we had our all-time record sales of $5,203,042.00), we held SIX major auctions over the course of the year. While that certainly DID help contribute to our setting our record, it also meant that our entire staff of 32 was "run ragged" the entire year, between the combination of all our 2,500 auctions per week (on average) combined with all these major auctions (as soon as we finished one, we had to start on the next one!). So this year we are "only" scheduling four major auctions! There will be three "regular" Major Auctions that will be held at the beginning of May, the beginning of August, and the beginning of December. In addition we will hold our 17th Annual Halloween Auction (Halloween would not be "Halloween" without it!). We will also make a slight adjustment in our auctions of "rolled" posters (especially non-U.S. posters and rolled one-sheets), where we will now have 999 of those per auction, rather than the 850 we used to have (and our auctions of flat items will continue to have 999 of each per auction). Why are we making this change? Two reasons. One is for the reason cited above, which is how doing six in a single year is just too much work. We know that the four we do hold have every possibility of being just as good as the six we held last year, and with more time to gather consignments between each one, they may well be even better! But the other reason is even more important! We are going to make a FAR greater effort to limit our major auctions to items that are TRULY rare, unusual, and desirable. If this means we have fewer items per major auction, then that is fine. Why this change? I am glad you asked! We have found that consignors often hear the words "major auction" and automatically assume that they items will sell for more there, but when less desirable items are placed there, often the exact opposite proves to be true. This is because they then sometimes fall by the wayside, whereas in our "regular" auctions they would stand out as some of the "better" items. We have already been making this shift (after explaining it to our consignors) and that has resulted in our "regular" auctions at the beginning of 2016 being really excellent, and those "shifted" items have done quite well. In addition, we will also look to hold more "special" auctions, like our "scripts" auction this week, as well as others, like another "all-Star Wars" auction we have planned, another "all signed" auction, and many more. So you WILL see fewer major auctions in 2016, but you WILL see better "regular" auctions than in the past, and we believe that surely is in the interested of all our bidders, our consignors, and our 32 employees!
