We were asked recently, "Why do you ever sell reproductions? That would appear to go against everything you stand for...."

We try to only sell repros when they are the sort that are unlikely to fool people (where they are a different size from the original, or a much lower quality, etc). After all, there are tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of repros out there, and us stopping selling them would not change that, and there ARE many people out there who are quite happy to hang a repro on their wall (after all, that is why they were originally made!), so we ARE providing a useful service for those people on the rare times when we auction repros.

However, we try to NEVER sell repros that are the sort that are exact duplicates of the originals, because those are often used to cheat people. We return many hundreds of such repros to the people who send them to us each year.

And when we do auction reproductions, we always clearly mark them as "REPRODUCTION" in the auction title and within the auction description. Additionally, we only offer them in "special" auctions such as that of bulk lots and in our "rolled special" auctions, and we try to NEVER include them side by side with originals, so there is that much less chance anyone could ever accidentally bid on them thinking they are originals.
