eMoviePoster.comDid you know... that there are five different variations of original Jaws one-sheets?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 08/13/2012 Over the years we have noticed that there were slight variations in
different known original examples of JAWS one-sheets. One of those differences is the lack of
a ratings box, surely explained by those being "international styles". But there were other
differences as well (and in absolutely surely original posters!), so we assigned our own Phil Wages
to thoroughly investigate this, and he outdid himself! Here is what he reports: First, here is an image that shows the variations in a side-by-side
comparison with a brief description of each. The image is clickable to see a MUCH larger
image: The reproduction measures 27" x 40" (original JAWS one-sheets are always 27" x 41"). But they can be identified even if you do not know the measurements because on all the originals, the left copyright notice is "indented" slightly into the left border (the reproduction has the copyright flush to the left edge of the image) AND the block "JAWS" logo is "indented" slightly into the right border (the reproduction block "JAWS" logo is flush to the right of the image). Here is a checklist:
Furthermore, it seems quite likely the reproductions were reproduced from the "NO NSS WITH BLOCK TITLE AT LOWER RIGHT" original poster. I suppose it is possible the reproductions are some sort of 1990s studio-issued "re-strikes", but we will not auction them as such unless irrefutable evidence can be presented. Remember too that this is only ONE version of a reproduction. There are surely others out there. Most are surely obvious (such as 24" x 36" posters or other wildly different measurements or crummy printing), but that's not to say other "high quality" reproductions haven't or won't been made, so it's always better to err on the side of caution. It is also interesting to note that usually, international style posters carry no rating and no NSS number, but in the case of JAWS, the international style posters DO have an NSS number. There is only one original variation of the poster that does not have an NSS number, but it has a rating! If any of you have a DIFFERENT variation OR any additional
info or comments, we would love to hear from you and to see a high quality photo of it so I can
add that to our research. Please
contact Phil with
your comments."
