eMoviePoster.comDid You Know... that we have auctioned just under one thousand U.S. one-sheets from Star Wars alone?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 12/05/2016 Many times I hear people say, "There are so many surviving examples of 'x' poster that the price of it is SURE to come down soon". I especially see this said about very popular titles like "Star Wars" or "Jaws", and this is simply NOT true the vast majority of the time! Anyone who has followed the selling prices of these titles in recent years has seen that just the reverse has often occurred! The prices of the best ones keep steadily rising. Why? Because FAR more important than how many examples survive is how many people there are who would love to own that poster! "Star Wars", "Jaws", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Big Lebowski", the Harry Potter movies, and so VERY many other titles are classics to today's generation, and as they continue to age there will almost surely be an ever growing number of people who would love to display these iconic titles on their walls, so I expect the cost of these titles to continue to rise, regardless of how many examples survive (and on those particular sizes and titles where only a very few survive, I expect the price rises to be even sharper). So if you are one of those people who have been waiting for prices to fall back before buying one of these titles, know you may be waiting a very long time! Speaking of Star Wars, I just noticed the amazing statistic that we have auctioned just under one thousand U.S. one-sheets from Star Wars alone! I am NOT talking about the entire series, but ONLY the very first movie (Episode 4, from 1977)! Do you doubt me? Let's do the math together! Go to our Auction History gallery at http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archive.html. Type in "Star Wars" in the Search box, and click on the words "Star Wars" below. That will give you 2,714 results! Now go to the Search filter at left that says "one-sheet" and click on it, and that gives you the 966 times we have auctioned a one-sheet from the 1977 movie Star Wars here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/STAR%2520WARS/tag/xtype%253Aone-sheet/archive.html! But you might say, "That includes all re-releases". Then click on the Search filter at left that says "first release" and now you have the 502 first release one-sheets from the 1977 movie Star Wars here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/STAR%2520WARS/tag/xtype%253Aone-sheet/tag/extra%253Afirst/archive.html! But you might then say "What about just the iconic Style A poster?". Then click on the Search filter at left that says "style a" and now you have the 219 Style A first release one-sheets from the 1977 movie Star Wars here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/STAR%2520WARS/tag/xtype%253Aone-sheet/tag/extra%253Afirst/tag/extra%253Astyle%2520a/archive.html! But you might then say "There were four printings of the Style A poster and I only want to see the first printing". Then click on the Search filter at left that says "style a" and now you have the 56 Style A first release one-sheets from the 1977 movie Star Wars here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/STAR%2520WARS/tag/xtype%253Aone-sheet/tag/extra%253Afirst/tag/extra%253Astyle%2520a/tag/extra%253Afirst%2520printing/archive.html! But you might then say "There was an international and a domestic style of the first printing of the Style A poster and I only want to see those!". Then click on the Search filter at left that says "domestic" and now you have the 30 Style A first release domestic one-sheets from the 1977 movie Star Wars here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/STAR%2520WARS/tag/xtype%253Aone-sheet/tag/extra%253Afirst/tag/extra%253Astyle%2520a/tag/extra%253Afirst%2520printing/tag/extra%253Adomestic/archive.html! Now obviously this is a VERY unusual case (due to all the added search terms you can add on this title, and how many of each we have auctioned) but it well illustrates two things: first, our very useful our completely free Auction History gallery is for the entire hobby, and second, that even on a title were we have auctioned nearly one thousand one-sheets the prices continue to rise!
