Did you know... what the auction policy called "buyer beware" is (and that the ONLY major auction without it is eMoviePoster.com)?

EVERY major auction there is (not just movie poster auctions, but also all other auctions that auction vintage material of any kind) has a policy called "buyer beware". This means that all items they auction are "as is" and that there are no returns, and that the auction is not responsible even if they misrepresent what they are selling. If the item is not what was represented, then the buyer is "stuck" with it.

In movie poster terms, this usually comes down to three kinds of issues:
1) An item is NOT from the year claimed (usually it is a re-release sold as an original)
2) An item is NOT in the condition it was represented to be in (usually this is because important defects were conveniently "missed" and the item received a higher grade than it deserved)
3) The amount of restoration an item has had was misrepresented (usually only a small amount of restoration is revealed, when the item has actually had extensive restoration)

Auctions claim they need this policy because they can't take the time required to thoroughly research every item, and that they can't hire long term experts capable of accurately grading items (and just as important, able to detect restoration and the extent of it). They say there would be no auctions if they had to give the kind of warranty that the most respected long time dealers give.

When I set up eMoviePoster.com in 1990 (it was called Bruce Hershenson Vintage Movie Posters back then) I set out to prove every major auction company wrong! I said that MY company would have NO buyer beware, and that EVERY item we auction would have a LIFETIME GUARANTEE as to originality and that I would take back any item within one week of receipt if it had been misdescribed in ANY way.

Critics claimed I could never continue doing this, and that before long I would be forced to adopt the same "buyer beware" standards of other auctions, but instead, we have enjoyed THIRTY years of ever-increasing sales, as more and more collectors realize how much better it is for them to deal with an auction that follows our stated policies, and which offers true customer service, before, during, and after every sale.

Is it expensive to offer a LIFETIME GUARANTEE as to originality on every item, and to pay for real customer service, and to do all we can to make every transaction turn out right? Absolutely! But it also gains us loyal buyers and consignors who buy from us year after year, and that makes it all worthwhile!

You can see our exact "Buyer Warranty" HERE. eMoviePoster.com is like NO other auction (and all our customers know it)!
