As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES!

This week I have the pressbook from Elmer the Great, the 1933 Mervyn LeRoy baseball sports comedy ("He strikes right at your funny bone"; "The two funniest comedians on the screen as a hysterically funny big league picture who could certainly dish it out... Can you take it!"; "In Ring Lardner's & George M. Cohan's wildest baseball yarn!"; "A First National and Vitaphone laugh hit!") starring Joe E. Brown (in the title role as Elmer Kane), Patricia Ellis, Frank McHugh, Claire Dodd, Preston Foster, Sterling Holloway, J. Carrol Naish, and several real life baseball players including Lon Warneke (Chicago Cubs), Ray Jacobs (Chicago Cubs), Truck Hannah (New York Yankees), Babe Herman (Chicago Cubs), Ernie Orsatti (St Louis Cardinals), Bill Burbaker (Pittsburgh Pirates), Wally Berger (Boston Braves), Larry French (Pittsburgh Pirates), and Tut Steinback (Chicago Cubs). Note that on page seven, this pressbook pictures nine real life baseball players who appeared in this film. It also pictures legendary player Babe Ruth! We don't know if Ruth appeared in the film, or solely in the advertising. If anyone knows more about Babe Ruth's involvement in this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
