eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: Anna and the King of Siam pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 12/31/2012 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook from Anna and the King of Siam, the classic 1946 John Cromwell historical Thailand royalty romantic teacher melodrama ("Based upon the biography by Margaret Landon"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; later turned into the hit Broadway musical and movie, "The King and I") starring Irene Dunne (in the title role as Anna), Rex Harrison (in the title role as the King of Siam), Linda Darnell (one of the most amazing and tragic stories in Hollywood history, Darnell was born in Texas and had a mother who pushed her into modeling at age 11, telling people she was 16; two years later, she began acting, and she had a Hollywood screen test at age 14, but when her real age was discovered, she was sent home; after two more years of acting, she was given a major role in "Hotel for Women", and at age 15, became the youngest leading lady ever in Hollywood; that same year, she co-starred with Tyrone Power in "Day-Time Wife", still only 15!; over the next few years, she became a major Hollywood star; in 1947, she appeared in "Forever Amber", which included a scene of her surviving being trapped by a fire; she had an unhappy personal life, marrying three times and having major problems with alcohol; in 1965, at age 41, she was at her secretary's home watching one of her earliest hits, "Stardust", and the house caught on fire and she died, having made 46 movies), Lee J. Cobb, Gale Sondergaard (in her nominated for Best Supporting Actress Acadamy Award role), Mikhail Rasumny, Dennis Hoey, Tito Renaldo, and Richard Lyon. Here is an image of the front cover and back cover poster pages, as well as an interior two page
spread: Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 25,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!).
