eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: High Noon pressbook coversReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 06/27/2011 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook from "High Noon", the classic 1952 Fred Zinnemann cowboy western suspense thriller ("When the hands point straight up... the excitement starts!"; "There is nothing under the sun like the high adventure of High Noon"; nominated for the Best Director and Best Picture Academy Award; written by Carl Foreman) starring Gary Cooper (in his Best Actor Academy Award winning role; as Will Kane), Thomas Mitchell, Lloyd Bridges (few major Hollywood stars have been so late in achieving stardom!; Bridges made a few movies in 1936 at the age of 23, but then worked on the stage until 1941, when he signed a contract with Columbia Pictures at the age of 28; it was several more years before he started playing leading roles, and he was caught up in the Hollywood blacklist of the early 1950s; he remained a minor star through much of the 1950s, but finally achieved stardom in TV's "Sea Hunt" in 1958; years later, he played wild parody roles in the "Airplane" and "Hot Shots" movies; he is, of course, also well remembered as the father of Jeff and Beau Bridges, both of whom have had similarly unconventional Hollywood careers as their father!; as Harvey Pell), Katy Jurado (as Helen Ramirez), Grace Kelly (as Amy Fowler Kane), Otto Kruger (as the judge), Lon Chaney Jr. (as the old sheriff), Henry Morgan, Lee Van Cleef (as Jack Colby), Ian MacDonald (as Frank Miller), Robert J. Wilke (as Jim Pierce), and Sheb Wooley (as Ben Miller). Here is an image of the front cover and the back "poster page" (see larger
images by clicking on these thumbnails). Note that in those days almost every
movie had a completely different image for every single
poster, and that this pressbook had a really cool full-color cover image that
was different from the posters! Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 25,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!).
