Cool Item Of the Month: Shanghai pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 05/08/2023 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you this week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook from Shanghai, the 1935 James Flood China interracial romance romantic love triangle melodrama ("He is a Coolie! He is a Prince! - He is a Pauper! He is a Millionaire! - He is Chinese! He is Russian! - He is Yellow! He is White! Yet to one woman he is life itself!"; about a woman visiting Shanghai who falls in love with a handsome wealthy Russian, but he has a terrible secret, which is that he is half Chinese, and she would be scandalized if she found out) starring Loretta Young, Charles Boyer, Warner Oland (best remembered as Charlie Chan in the 20th Century Fox series), Alison Skipworth, Fred Keating, and Keye Luke. Note that Warner Oland played an Asian in this movie, so he looks exactly as he did in the Charlie Chan movies!
