eMoviePoster.comThis Week's Cool Item: Bird of Paradise pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 08/17/2020 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you this week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook from Bird of Paradise, the 1932 King Vidor South Seas tropical island jungle romantic adventure thriller ("It happened in Hawaii!"; from the play by Richard Walton Tully; about a handsome South Seas sailor who meets the daughter of an island chief, and he falls in love with her, and he plans to stay on the island with her, but the chief tells him that his daughter is promised to a nearby prince, and that she is "taboo" to the sailor; of course, the sailor and the girl defy her father, and go to live on a deserted island, but she becomes afraid that her betrayal will cause the volcano to erupt, and when it does, the island men come to take the daughter back and sacrifice her; the girl and the sailor are both captured and almost die, but his ship returns and rescues them, but the girl fears that her people will die if she leaves, so she returns and throws herself into the volcano!) starring Dolores Del Rio, Joel McCrea, John Halliday, Lon Chaney Jr. (billed as "Creighton Chaney"), Richard 'Skeets' Gallagher, Bert Roach, and Agostino Borgato.. Here is an image of the pressbook's covers and an interior two-page spread: As part of our bi-weekly club email, I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 20,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!). And remember to check out our previous Cool Items in our Cool Item of the Week archive (which is fully searchable!).
