eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: Dame Chance pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 03/16/2020 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook from Dame Chance, the 1926 Bertram Bracken silent romantic love triangle melodrama ("From the novel by Frances Nordstrom"; about a rich man who offers a young woman the chance to be his mistress, but she turns him down until her mother needs an operation, and then she agrees; later, she meets a more suitable young man, and her lover gallantly steps aside) starring Robert Fraser, Gertrude Astor, Julanne Johnston, Mary Carr, and David Hartford. Note that the advertising for this movie has a cool gambling motif, with a roulette wheel, but that is metaphorical, referring to the gambling the leading lady does when she takes a lover for financial reasons. The lobby cards have a witch silhouette on them as well, and we don't know why that is! Here is an image of the pressbook's covers and an interior two-page spread: Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 20,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!). And remember to check out our previous Cool Items of the Week in our Cool Item of the Week archive (which is fully searchable!).
