eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: Sophie Lang Goes West pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 07/08/2019 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! So below is the pressbook from Sophie Lang Goes West, the 1937 Charles Reisner jewel thief romantic crime adventure melodrama sequel ("The exciting and glamorous woman jewel thief is back with a new adventure-thrill!"; "From Stories by Frederick Irving Anderson"; the cute story of a reformed female jewel thief who leaves New York because she is constantly being accused of robberies she didn't commit, but she ends up on the train with a Sultan with a rare jewel, and of course, it is stolen, and all suspicion falls on her, but everything works out in the end!) starring Gertrude Michael (in the title role as Sophie Lang), Lee Bowman, Sandra Storme, Buster Crabbe (billed as "Larry Crabbe"), C. Henry Gordon, and Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings). Note that this was the third movie featuring this character (after 1934's "The Notorious Sophie Lang" and 1936's "The Return of Sophie Lang"). Apparently this movie did not do as well, because it was the final movie with this character. Here is an image of the pressbook's covers and an interior two-page spread: Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 20,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!). And remember to check out our previous Cool Items of the Week in our Cool Item of the Week archive (which is fully searchable!).
