Cool Item Of the Week: Shanghai Lady pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 04/09/2018 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook from Shanghai Lady, the 1929 John S. Robertson China romantic melodrama ("100% talking"; "More thrilling than the stage play!"; about an ex-prostitute and drug addict who meets an ex-convict in Shanghai, and both want to change their lives, and each believes the other is a respectable person who would be horrified to learn the truth about the other!) starring Mary Nolan, James Murray, Lydia Yeamans Titus, Wheeler Oakman, and Anders Randolf. Note that star Mary Nolan was a former Ziegfeld girl who was then known as "Bubbles Wilson", but she had a very troubled life, filled with scandal, and she retired from movies in 1932, and was later a drug addict, and died in 1948 at the age of 43, completely forgotten.
