Special Notes About This
Thursday's Items About Those British quads in This
Auction Which Were Once Folded
Note that some of the British quads in this auction were NEVER
folded, and some were folded (almost all "older" British quads were folded
before they were distributed to theaters). Unlike U.S. one-sheets,
which were almost all folded in the exact same way, some British quads were
folded vertically three times and horizontally once, but others were folded
vertically three times and horizontally three times (folded one time more).
However, all of the quads in this auction were
stored unfolded, which has diminished how noticeable the foldlines are.
UNLESS WE ARE TOLD OTHERWISE BY THE NEW OWNER, WE INTEND TO SEND ALL OF
THESE QUADS ROLLED IN TUBES. However, if a person solely purchases
one of the previously folded quads, we WILL re-fold it and send it in
a flat package if the person specifically requests it (this will lower the
shipping when it is one of the quads that was folded an extra time, because
it will fit in a small flat package, but it will likely not lower the
shipping when it is one of the quads that was folded in the regular way).
Of course, if you purchase both quads that were once folded and quads that
were never folded, then it will make far more sense to send them all
together in a single tube.
About the Rarity of 30x40 Movie Posters
Thirty by forty posters have been made since the 1930s, but few theaters ever ordered them,
making them FAR more rare than one-sheets of the same
titles. Why? Because they were printed on a much better paper stock
than that of one-sheets, and the studios charged between five
and ten times more for these posters, so only the biggest theaters ordered them.
Many collectors do not realize these sizes exist, but there is a great argument
for why thirty by forties should sell for more than corresponding one-sheets,
which is that they are printed on a much better paper stock, don't have the annoying
foldlines of regular folded one-sheets, and are a jillion times more rare!
We have seen high grade thirty by forties continue to rise in price as more and
more collectors become aware of them, and we expect this trend to continue. The collection of thirty by forties we are offering this week include many titles that are both rare AND
desirable! Best of all, many are in really wonderful condition, and very
few have any annoying tiny creases (referred to as "crinkle marks" in the
hobby)!
About Creases in 30x40 Movie Posters
Thirty by forty posters have many advantages over one-sheets (see above), but
the only disadvantage they have is that the kind of paper they were printed on
creases very easily, especially if the poster is at all roughly handled.
Once a poster has these tiny creases (and if the poster is roughly handled while
it is rolled, the creases are libel to be scattered throughout different parts
of the image), then is no quick or easy way to remove them.
Most collectors dislike these creases (called "crinkle
marks"), but most recognize that it is very hard to find any thirty by forty posters without ANY of them, and are accepting of just a
few, especially if they are not very noticeable or distracting. We have
strongly downgraded the thirty by forty posters we are
selling that have very noticeable crinkle marks, and we try to always note that
in our written description of those items (sometimes, crinkle marks don't show
well in a digital image, and some unscrupulous dealers will fail to mention them
to unsuspecting buyers!), but we ALWAYS mention them in writing (if they
are at all distracting), so the buyers of these posters will not get unpleasant
surprises when they first see them in person!
Know that a fair number of the 30 x 40 posters we are selling are in
REALLY
excellent condition (with few or no crinkle marks). But generally, know that posters in "fine" condition have
virtually no crinkle marks, and that posters in "very good to fine" have very
few crinkle marks, and the ones that there are are barely noticeable, and not
very distracting at all!
About the Condition
Note that we give a detailed overall condition grade to every item we sell
("fine", "very good to fine", "very good", "good to very good", "good", and
"fair", with only a few graded "poor") along with more details about the
condition described in words (but pretty much only if they are defects that CAN'T be seen in our super-sized images, or if the item is especially valuable). We felt this would help bidders identify items they want to bid on more easily. Of course, we still strongly recommend that you look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
If a poster is in less than very good condition, should you not bid on it? Of course not, as long as you are accepting of the defects the poster has! The item that is graded "very good", but has as many minor defects as is allowed under the "very good" definition is only in SLIGHTLY better condition than the best of the "good to very good" items. So please take the time to look at the larger images of items that interest you, and see if the defects are the sort that you can "live with", or are willing to restore. Some of these items are EXTREMELY rare, and it may be years before you see them offered again! |
U.S. Shipping Details U.S. buyers need to enclose $9 shipping (which includes full insurance)!
Why do we charge $9, when we used to charge $9 to $11 on eBay? We spend $9
(or more) on almost all U.S. orders, because we use such good, heavy
packaging (at least twice as strong as that used by most sellers), even on
low priced orders (because we believe a low priced item still deserves the
best handling)!
We USED to charge $11 for shipping on U.S.
orders over $100 when we sold on eBay, but now that we are auctioning on our
own site we have lowered that to $9, which is both our way of thanking those
who order a lot from us, and also our way of passing on our savings from not
paying eBay commissions to our customers!
Will your order be
shipped to you by UPS?
UPS does NOT automatically require a signature
to deliver packages, so if you want the signature to be required, you will
need to pay the extra $2.50 UPS charges for "signature required" Delivery
Confirmation, and please realize that they will then NOT leave the
package, and you may well have to go to the UPS facility yourself to pick it
up. But if you prefer this, that is fine, and if you have any other
special requirements, please tell us when you are paying for your order.
IF YOU DO NOT SPECIFY THAT YOU WANT SIGNATURE REQUIRED, THEN YOUR PACKAGE
WILL BE SENT WITHOUT SIGNATURE REQUIRED!
You CAN usually combine shipment!
(NOTE: These Thursday items must
be sent rolled in tubes and can NOT be combined with the folded one-sheets we
auctioned 4/28 and 4/30 [except with some of the British quads, and then
only if the buyer specifically requests that we do
so], but CAN be combined with the British quads we are auctioning
on 5/5, and can NOT be combined with the 'oversized' flat items we'll
be auctioning 5/5 to 5/14)
Note that we not only allow you to combine as many items as you want from a single
set of EITHER Tuesday or Thursday auctions, and still pay only a single shipping charge for all of the items, but we also allow you to wait until
the next three sets of auctions end (a total of four sets of auctions) so that you can combine your current purchases with those of our following auctions
(if possible), and that means there
is a chance you could combine items from up to four of our sets of auctions, and still pay only a single shipping charge (assuming those items fit into the same type of package). We KNOW there are other sellers who charge a little less on shipping than we do, but we know that our packaging is the best there is, and our orders virtually never arrive damaged (and on the very rare times that they do, all our U.S. packages are fully insured, and
FULL INSURANCE IS INCLUDED IN THE $5 U.S. SHIPPING CHARGE).
DON'T BID ON
OUR ITEMS UNLESS YOU WILL PAY THE $9 U.S. SHIPPING!

Non-U.S. Shipping Details Non-U.S. buyers must pay the actual cost of shipping their order
(you can choose whatever method you prefer, but know that the U.S. Post
Office has eliminated Surface Mail, so we can only send via Express or
Airmail), plus $2 for the best packaging materials you have ever seen.
All non-U.S. buyers must tell us if they want the package sent insured or
uninsured at the time they pay for their order.
Here is a chart
containing estimated shipping charges for up to 3 items from this
week's auctions
(Note: Insured quotes are based on a $200 value; you pay $1.60 more
for each additional $100 of insurance) |

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please bear this shipping cost in mind BEFORE your place a bid (if
you live outside the U.S.). The vast majority of our customers want a very
securely packed tube, and will pay the extra shipping cost involved (and of
course, it goes to the Post Office or UPS, and not us!). Please do not ask
us to pack less securely, as that would likely result in a damaged order.
Some sellers are sending by Ground UPS to Canada, but that incurs large
"brokerage fees", so we do not recommend it. Note that there are also
some sellers sending non-U.S. packages via a "Letter" rate, but of course
this is not legal, and we can not do this. We have outlined the
possibilities for sending non-U.S. packages above, so please read that
carefully, BEFORE placing a bid!
Do you have a friend or relative who lives in the
United States? Some of our customers either
visit the U.S. regularly, or have friends or relatives within the U.S., and
often those customers have us send their orders to a U.S. address, and then
they transport the posters from there. THIS CAN SAVE YOU A GREAT DEAL ON
SHIPPING! This is fine with us, but realize that you still need to let
us know within one week of receipt if you want to return anything, so don't
use this method unless you are certain you will want to keep your purchases.
DON'T BID ON OUR ITEMS UNLESS YOU WILL PAY THE ACTUAL COST OF SHIPPING (the
actual cost of shipping plus $2 outside the U.S.)!

You Can
Add More to Your
Order
In addition to our current auctions, we offer
many other non-auction items. Please note that the items in this week's
auction will mostly be sent rolled in tubes, so you can add any item that
can easily be rolled for no additional shipping costs. We have noted in each
paragraph below whether the items can be shipped rolled or not.
