An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Le capitaine Fracasse (released in some English-speaking countries as "Captain Fracasse"), the 1943 Abel Gance French/Italian swashbuckler romantic adventure melodrama starring Fernand Gravey, Assia Noris, Jean Weber, Roland Toutain, and Lucien Nat. Note that Abel Gance had made the epic movie "Napoleon" in 1927, but by the time of this movie, he no longer could get the budget required to make this movie on the scale it deserved. Many of the sets are miniatures, and the movie has its moments, but it is far from Gance's best. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Also note that this is an extremely rare French poster from during World War II! Virtually no French posters survive from the mid 1940s or earlier. There were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards!
