An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Russian Movie Poster (measures 23 3/4" x 35 3/4" [60 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

Bronenosets Potyomkin (released in the U.S. as "The Battleship Potemkin"), the classic 1925 Sergei Eisenstein Russian Revolution silent military war thriller (considered by many to be in the handful of greatest movies ever made; the movie includes the famous Odessa steps sequence) starring Ivan Bobrov, Beatrice Vitoldi, N. Poltavseva, Aleksandr Antonov, and Vladimir Barsky
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Russian movie! Also note that this is a Russian export poster. This means that it was printed in Russia, but was intended to be used when the movie was shown in other countries. It was created with a 5" blank area at the bottom where the country that was showing the movie could print in the title and credits (or they could also print in play dates and theater names). Note that the first release Russian posters that were used in Russia are beyond rare and the known examples are primarily in museums. This "export" poster (also from 1925) is itself quite rare. We have only auctioned two examples of it in all our years of auctioning, and the last one was 15 years ago, and that one was in much lesser condition.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had very tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and very minor wear on the folds. It had paper loss in the top blank corners and someone taped paper to the back of those areas, and the tape darkened slightly. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
