An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) The Day of the Dolphin, the 1973 Mike Nichols science fiction (sci-fi) scuba diving talking-to-animals fantasy thriller ("The most amazing outdoor adventure ever filmed! Two years in the making! Awesome excitement!"; "'A spine-tingling tale that might just come true.'"; "Unwittingly, he trained a dolphin to kill the President of the United States."; "Based on a novel by Robert Merle"; "Screenplay by Buck Henry", who also provided the human voice for the dolphins; about a scientist whose talking dolphins are kidnapped so they can be used in an assassination attempt!) starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, Paul Sorvino, Fritz Weaver, and Jon Korkes. Note that Roman Polanski was set to direct this movie in August of 1969, and he had previously written a screenplay, based on Robert Merle's novel. But he was in London looking for a location to film the movie at, when he received word that his pregnant wife Sharon Tate had been murdered by the Manson family on August 9, 1969, and he abandoned the movie. Four years later, Mike Nichols needed to direct one more movie to fulfill his 4-picture contract with producer Joseph Levine, and he made this movie, and Buck Henry wrote a new screenplay. One can only imagine how different the Polanski version of this movie would have been from the Nichols/Henry version! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good to fine, NO CUTS. Learn More about condition grades
