An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #1 Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) The Broken Coin, the 1915 Francis Ford silent newspaper journalism reporter fantasy mystery adventure serial ("From the secret panel, Count Frederick watches the result of his plans to trap the girl reporter") starring Grace Cunard, Francis Ford, Eddie Polo, Harry Schumm, Ernest Shields, and John Ford (the legendary director in a rare, early acting role) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This three-sheet was printed in 3 sections. Condition: good. The poster had a great deal of paper loss down the center varying in width from around 1" to around 3". This strip of paper loss included the right side of the man-at-center's face. There was not much damage in the rest of the image area, but the borders of the poster were tattered. Some restorer spent a great deal of time re-creating the missing areas of the image down the center of the poster, and they did a pretty good job, as I do not think the restoration would be immediately apparent to many people, except for the man's face at top center. Oddly, the one area that was not well restored is the center of the Universal logo at the top of the poster. The person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). Overall, the poster has had a great deal of restoration, but of course, it is quite likely that this is the only surviving example of this poster, and I think it does display pretty well, especially given that it is over 90 years old! This poster was linenbacked, and it had significant defects which were only somewhat repaired during the linenbacking process, or were not repaired at all (we describe both the defects as well as the quality of the restoration below, and based on those comments, you can easily determine which type of poster it is). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).
