An Original Vintage Movie Trade Ad (measures 12 1/4" x 18 1/2" [31 x 47 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Bullitt, the classic 1968 Peter Yates San Francisco California crime car chase action thriller ("The word 'cop' isn't written all over him - something more puzzling is."; "There are bad cops and there are good cops - and then there's Bullitt."; "Bullitt comes to this theatre soon. That ought to shake up the place pretty good. Not many freaky cops like Bullitt around. You look at the Italian shoes and the turtleneck and you have to wonder. You listen to the official beefs about 'personal misconduct,' 'disruptive influence,' you figure he's got to be up for trade. But when some rare Chicago blood starts spilling in San Francisco, they give Bullitt the mop. They weren't exactly doing him a favor. But they've done a great big one for you."; "Detective Lt. Frank Bullitt - some other kind of cop. Pity the guy he works for."; "Based on the novel 'Mute Witness' by Robert L. Pike"; about a detective who drives a 1968 Ford Mustang GT fastback while pursuing professional hitmen who murdered the wrong guy and let's not forget the really cool chase scenes!) starring Steve McQueen (in the title role "as Bullitt"), Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, Robert Duvall, Simon Oakland, and Norman Fell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Norbert Jobst Important Added Info: From the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was removed from the January 3, 1968 issue of The Hollywood Reporter. It can be framed and displayed (the trade ad offered here is a 2-page spread, and the printing on the other side is text on one side and an ad for "In the Heat of the Night" on the other, but of course, what is of interest here is the wonderful 2-page ad for Bullitt, which we have not seen offered in any auction). One might think, "All I have to do is find the January 3, 1968 issue of Hollywood Reporter, and then I have this ad", but finding issues of this throwaway magazine from nearly 50 years ago is virtually impossible! Condition: very good. The trade ad was removed from an issue of Hollywood Reporter (see above). It has slightly darkened around the edges and there is some faint red in the lower left, which is a minor printing defect. Learn More about condition grades
