eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result DILLINGER ('34) 1sh '34 Lease from Hershenson/Allen ArchiveAn Original Vintage One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More) Dillinger: Public Enemy No. 1, the 1934 newsreel style crime documentary short ("In the most thrilling episode of his life!"; about the life of the famous criminal, who became a folk hero in the 1930s, despite being a notorious bank robber) featuring John Dillinger, and Melvin Purvis. Note that most people know that John Dillinger was captured at a movie theater when he was betrayed by a female friend. The FBI was waiting for him, and they shot him in the back and killed him. Since the public already had admiration for him, there was much outcry over the FBI's "executing" him, especially by shooting him in the back. So J. Edgar Hoover, the head of the FBI, asked for this documentary short to be made so that the public could see that Dillinger was no hero at all, and that he was a very bad person who deserved to be killed!
