An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) A Day at the Races, the classic 1937 Sam Wood horse racing sports gambling screwball comedy ("The year's big laugh, music and girl show!") starring the Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, and Harpo Marx), Allan Jones, Maureen O'Sullivan, Margaret Dumont, Esther Muir, Douglass Dumbrille, Sig Ruman, Leonard Ceeley, and Dorothy Dandridge (in an uncredited early role, in a sequence where a large number of young black African American men and women sing with Harpo). Note that this movie includes the classic comedy sequence where Groucho tries to buy a horse racing tip from Chico's Tootsie-Frootsie ice cream cart! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by Groucho Marx! Our consignor purchased it many years ago from a major auction house that was auctioning property from a relative of Groucho's. He does not have certificate of authenticity, but we feel certain the signature is authentic. To make absolutely sure, we checked with Steve Stoliar, who was Groucho's secretary in the last years of his life, and the author of a wonderful book about that time called "Raised Eyebrows" (available on the Internet directly from Mr. Stoliar via Facebook). Mr. Stoliar confirmed that it was surely signed by Groucho, and that it would have been in the last years of his life, when his handwriting became shaky, and he started playfully adding a question mark after his name. So we are 100% certain this is a genuine Groucho autograph on this original 1937 lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There are faint water stains in the right of the top border, a pen mark in the right border that extends into the background (this mark may be from when Groucho signed the card), and a small stain and some smudges in the bottom of the card. There are faint water stains on the back of the top right corner, and a few tiny pinholes around the edges. There are a few other minor border defects, but otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition (see our images of the front and back of the card).
