An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures approximately 47" x 62") (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: d'apres Boris Grinsson Important Added Info: Note that we have been told that this poster is NOT the extremely rare very first release French one-panel poster for this classic movie, but rather a 1960s re-release. There is another French one-panel poster with different art that has the same printer information, but written in a different font, and that poster has art of Lemmon and Curtis holding Marilyn between them, and the art is signed "Grinsson" (we have never auctioned it, but we have seen an image of it). But THIS poster has art that is not signed Grinsson, but it is instead signed "d'apres Grinsson" (in the style of Grinsson), so we think this poster comes from an early re-release (or perhaps simply that a second poster was created once the movie proved so popular). If anyone knows more about these posters, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. Unfortunately, this poster was backed onto an extremely thin linen, and at some point after linenbacking, the poster was roughly handled and there are now creases around the edges of the poster (in both the thin linen and the poster itself), and there are a lesser number of creases scattered within the image. There are many creases and tears in the left and right borders, and a huge number of creases in the upper half of the right border, but fortunately, it is mostly in blank white areas. If I owned this great poster, I would certainly immediately have it removed from the thin linen, and after proper linenbacking and restoration, the poster will look wonderful, and will likely require little paint restoration within the image area.
