Robinson Date Sold 4/8/2003Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 R49 Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14") (Learn More) The Hatchet Man, the 1932 William A. Wellman Asian/American Chinatown romantic crime thriller ("...he served two masters... LOVE and HATE!"; "He Kills! She Thrills!"; "Based on the play by Achmed Abdullah & David Belasco"; about an Asian Tong assassin who is forced to kill his best friend, and the friend had a young daughter that the assassin adopts, and when she grows up, he falls in love with her and marries her, even though she is many years younger than he, and that is only the beginning of a long and complicated story!) starring Edward G. Robinson (in yellowface makeup), Loretta Young, Dudley Digges, Leslie Fenton, and Tully Marshall. Note that there are many reasons why this movie would not be made today! For one, the lead actors wear "yellowface" makeup to make them appear Asian, and of course, that will never be done again. For another, the relationship between Robinson and Loretta Young is beyond inappropriate, and the fact that she was just 19 when the movie was made makes their relationship even more difficult to watch. This movie is a fascinating reference to things that were considered appropriate in 1932 America, and in that context, it is well worth learning about! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. both cards have darkened somewhat with age; tack holes and small stains in each corner; minor scuffs and smudges throughout both cards Learn More about condition grades
