An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Only the Brave, the 1930 Frank Tuttle Civil War military spy espionage romantic melodrama (about a Union soldier who volunteers to become a spy and get secrets from the Confederate army, but then he meets beautiful Mary Brian, and falls in love with her) starring Gary Cooper, Mary Brian, Phillips Holmes, James Neill, Morgan Farley, Guy Oliver (as General Ulysses S. Grant) and John Elliot (as General Robert E. Lee). Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned three different scene cards and some stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this fourth lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good to fine. There are tiny pinholes in the corners and a few faint creases and scuffs around the edges. Otherwise, the card is in wonderful condition.
