An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 1/2" x 15 1/2" [27 x 39 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) The Miracle Man, the 1919 George Loane Tucker silent crime faith healing romantic melodrama ("There is a strange fascination in The Miracle Man. It is the supreme cry of the soul made visible"; based on the play by George M. Cohan and the story by Frank M. Packard; about a gang of crooks that hide out in a small town, and they find a local faith healer, and they use him to swindle people) starring Thomas Meighan, Betty Compson, Lon Chaney Sr., Joseph J. Dowling, J.M. Dumont, and Elinor Fair. Note that this was one of Lon Chaney's first great successes (he plays the gang leader, not the faith healer; he is nicknamed "The Frog", because he can dislocate his limbs, and he uses that ability to appear to be crippled, and then has the faith healer "cure" him for gullible crowds), and sadly the movie is lost. But in 1921, Photoplay magazine took a poll of its readers as to the best movie ever to that time, and this movie was voted number one! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: R. Van Buren Important Added Info: Note that first release posters from this movie are beyond rare (we have never auctioned even one of them). The first interior page of this pressbook shows the posters, and from it, we learn that Lon Chaney is pictured but not billed on all the posters, except for one of the two styles of one-sheet shown on that page (and he is only slightly in the Rotogravure one-sheet, which is shown on the back cover). Note that this is one of a remarkable group of 21 silent Paramount pressbooks that were in a bound volume. Each was carefully removed, so there is slight paper loss at the spine (and likely the other three borders were slightly trimmed to make them even, but only blank border areas were affected), and otherwise, most of the pressbooks are in really nice condition, although two have cuts, which are of course noted (and of course, the chances of finding these in any condition are very slim!). We are auctioning all 21 of these, in 21 separate auctions. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Condition: fair, WITH CUTS. The top one-quarter was cut out from the first interior page (page 3), and this affects the article on page 3 and part of the newspaper ads on page 4. Also, the front cover is "stuck" to the first interior page in the upper left corner, but very fortunately, it does not affect the great posters which are shown on page 2 or the writing on the first interior page (and of course, those two pages could be separated). The pressbook was removed from a bound volume (see above). There is a faint stain in the upper right blank border of all pages. The interior pages have darkened slightly, but are not really fragile.
