An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) High Sierra, the classic 1941 Raoul Walsh crime film noir ("He killed, and there on the edge of the crest of Sierra's highest crag... he must be killed!"; "Blazing Mountain Man-Hunt for Killer 'Mad-Dog' Earle!"; "Towering thrills with this year's academy award star!"; "The blazing mountain man-hunt for killer 'Mad Dog' Earle!"; "'This is the most exciting story I know!' - says ace story-teller and columnist Mark Hellinger"; "No man ever reached greater heights... to wait for death!"; "If you liked 'They Drive By Night' wait 'til you see... 'High Sierra'"; from a novel by W.R. Burnett) starring Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart (in one of his best roles, and the movie that helped elevate him from second-tier status to first-rate star!; as Mad Dog Roy Earle), Alan Curtis, Arthur Kennedy, Joan Leslie, Henry Hull, Henry Travers, Minna Gombell, Barton MacLane, Jerome Cowan, Elisabeth Risdon, and Cornell Wilde (15th billed in his first credited role) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there is a style of half-sheet for this classic movie that looks like the title card, but this is not that half-sheet, so it must be the style B half-sheet. I have checked with the top Humphrey Bogart collectors, and none of them have EVER seen this half-sheet before (and they have not seen this image on any other poster, which is not unusual for a style B half-sheet, which often has a unique image). It has a wonderful full-length image of Bogart pointing a gun with Lupino kneeling beside him, and it has full artwork with the title and credits laid over the art, something that was not done nearly enough at Warner Bros. at this time!
UPDATED 12/08/2013: Note that a collector tells us that a different example of this poster was auctioned on eBay in 2006, and that it sold for more than $9000 (we know it is different because that example had paper loss in the bottom right of the image). So the poster we are offering is NOT the only known example, but it is certainly a very rare poster! Another collector mentioned that an image of this poster can be seen in the original pressbook for the film! Condition: good to very good. The poster was hand folded down the middle at one time. It has darkened somewhat, typical of Warner Bros. linen half-sheets and lobby cards of this period. It has many creases scattered throughout. It has a 4 1/2" tear in the upper left border, extending through the middle of the "S" and into the "I" of "SIERRA". It had a 2" tear in the same place in the right border, extending into the image background. It had many small tears, creases, and tiny bits of surface paper loss around the edges. Someone took conservation tape and put it on the back of all of the border tears and also on the back of most of the top border, and on the back of part of the vertical foldline, to reinforce those areas. The many creases scattered throughout are very noticeable from close up, but from a reasonable viewing distance, they are not very distracting. Whether it is restored or left as it is, this great poster (which no one I know of has seen before!) will look great on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
