An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) Golden Dawn, the 1930 Ray Enright World War I (WWI) Africa romantic love triangle white-girl-raised-by-natives musical melodrama ("Based on the musical play by Otto Harbach & Oscar Hammerstein 2nd"; about a white girl in Africa who was raised from when she was an infant by an African woman, and about a German soldier and an English POW who both are madly in love with her, but she is "betrothed" to the tribal god Mulunghu, and when the German soldier is rejected, he tries to convince the natives that their current drought is caused by the girl being unfaithful to their god, and she declares that she believes in the "white man's God", but fortunately, just then there is a thunderstorm!) starring Walter Woolf King, Vivienne Segal, Noah Beery Sr., Alice Gentle, and Lupino Lane. Note that this was a very successful stage play for Harbach and Hammerstein, but it is one of the most forgotten of their musicals. The answer surely lies in its massively racist plot. Noah Beery plays an African in blackface, the lead girl sings "My Bwanna", and many other difficult-to-watch moments! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1930 movie posters from this movie are incredibly rare. We have never sold even a single poster from this movie until we received this window card! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good to very good. The window card originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this was commonly done with window cards, when the top had been left blank, or when someone had hand-scrawled play date information in that area). Most collectors do not consider it to be a significant defect at all, since only blank white paper is lost, and the window card becomes easier to frame. There is a faint slight partial horizontal crease across the top 4" of the card. The back of the right 3-5" of the card was water stained, but it has little effect on the front. There is darkening, creases, and a few tiny tears around the edges, with a few smudges and scuffs scattered in the image. Learn More about condition grades
