Stepin Fetchit (born Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry) was a black African American actor from the 1920s to the 1970s. Because of the prejudices of the time, he was forced to primarily take stereotyped roles, and act in ways that reinforced unfortunate black stereotypes, and his name has become synonymous with roles of this nature. In 1929, he scandalized some people when he not only married a 17 year old high school girl, but she was white, to boot! Some of his movies include: The Prodigal, Carolina, Harlem Follies of 1949, Zenobia, and Steamboat Round the Bend. He had a stage act in the very early 1960s called "Stepin Fetchit in Person", where he performed "The Harlem Carioca", and during that time, he became good friends with Muhammad Ali, and spent time at his training camps! He passed away in 1985 at the age of 83.

Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Stepin Fetchit! It is a publicity postcard that Stepin Fetchit had made up, with an image with him and James Stewart on one side and an image of him and Muhammad Ali on the other side (fascinatingly, it tells how Ali has hired Stepin Fetchit to be an advisor in his training camp, because Fetchit and Jack Johnson were great friends, and that Fetchit has "shown me things that I never knew about defense and attack"!).

Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic!

As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes.
