Date Sold 5/9/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 7 3/4" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Rough House Rosie, the 1927 Frank R. Strayer silent boxing sports romantic comedy ("Story by Nunnally Johnson"; about a girl who wants to be a Broadway actress, but fails, and then she tries to mix with rich society people, and that doesn't work out either, but she ends up in love with a champion boxer, and at one point, she performs in a dancing/boxing nightclub act, and she helps her boyfriend win the championship by distracting his opponent with her sexy eyes!) starring Clara Bow (in the title role as Rosie O'Reilly), Reed Howes, Arthur Housman (as professional gambler "Kid Farrell"), Doris Hill, Douglas Gilmore, and John Miljan. Note that Clara Bow was the most famous "flapper girl" of the mid to late 1920s (she became known as "The It Girl" after the character she played based on the popular novel by Elinor Glyn). She had a major role in Wings, and was Paramount's biggest star at that time. But she had a notorious private life and seemingly "settled down" when she married cowboy star Rex Bell in 1931 (she had two children and she retired from movies), but sadly in 1949 she went into a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt (she had had psychiatric issues for quite some time) and she was released but never returned to her family, and lived alone until her death in 1965. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic. Someone trimmed away the extra 1" from the left of the still. Condition: good to very good. The left 1" was neatly trimmed off (see above). There is a faint semi-circular indentation in the top center of the image, but it is mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. Otherwise, the still is in pretty nice condition!
