An Original Vintage Comic Book (measures 6 3/4" x 10 1/4" [17 x 26 cm]) (Learn More) Spider-Man is a comic book superhero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962 for Marvel Comics. Stan Lee thought of the name, told Jack Kirby to draw a story with that character, and then Lee didn't like it and asked Steve Ditko to do it instead. Ditko's version is drastically different from Kirby's, and it appears that most of Stan Lee's contribution to the creation was the name, and this is one of the most highly contested subjects in the comic book hobby! In the original comic series ("The Amazing Spider-Man"), Spider-Man is the alias of Peter Parker, an orphan raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City. His origin story has him acquiring spider-related abilities after a bite from a radioactive spider. Marvel has also published books featuring alternate versions of Spider-Man, including Miles Morales, who takes up the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's supposed death. The Spider-Man character has appeared in various television shows, books and multiple successful movies. Artist: Steve Ditko Important Added Info: Note that this comic book will be sent to the winning bidder in a brand new Mylites4 protective sleeve and a full-back 100% acid-free backing board. Note that this is one of eleven comic books consigned to us by a man who "re-discovered" his childhood comic book collection, and they have sat undisturbed (and unslabbed, unrestored, and unflattened) for all those years, until now, when we are auctioning them in the same state without anything being done to them. We have photographed ALL pages of the comic so that you can absolutely tell what condition it is in, something you of course could never do with a "slabbed" comic book! Contents: Cover art by Steve Ditko. First appearance of Dr. Octopus in Spider-Man Versus Doctor Octopus, script by Stan Lee, art by Steve Ditko; When an experiment goes wrong, Otto Octavius gains control of his robotic arms and decides to take over an atomic facility, but Spider-Man stops him. Spider-Man pin-up page by Ditko. Reprinted in Marvel Tales # 140. First issue with a letters column (including a letter by MyComicShop president Buddy Saunders!). 36 pgs. $0.12. Cover price $0.12. Please note that we don't use a "comic guide" grading system, and OUR grading scale is completely different from standard comic book grading. Our "very good" is completely different from a comic book graded "very good". Note: We have 18 images of this comic book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 19 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 9. UPDATED 08/28/2023: Note that a sharp-eyed collector noticed that we were missing a single image. The 2 pages following the first "Spider's Web" page were not shown on the auction (but they are part of the complete comic book we are auctioning). We have now updated the auction images to show those 2 pages. Condition: fair to good. There is much wear and tears down the spine of the cover. Please do not bid on this comic unless you can accept its many defects, as seen in our images of the entire book. Learn More about condition grades
