An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Happy Days (released in some countries as "Fox Follies 1930"), the 1930 Benjamin Stoloff all-star romantic comedy musical ("The All Star All Talking Musical Romance"; "Story by Sidney Lanfield") "with 100 Entertainers" including Charles E. Evans, Marjorie White, Richard Keene, Stuart Erwin, and Martha Lee Sparks. Also starring in the movie in cameo roles as themselves are Janet Gaynor, Charles Farrell, Victor McLaglen, Rex Bell, William Collier Sr., El Brendel, Dixie Lee (who was Bing Crosby's first wife), George Jessel, Will Rogers, and many other top Fox stars of the day (including heavyweight boxing champ James J. Corbett; also, one of the uncredited chorus girls was 14 year-old Betty Grable)! Note that this movie was a sequel to the extremely successful "Movietone Follies of 1929". Once again, there is a loose plot tying together the appearances of all of Fox's top stars, in this case, the owner of a showboat is facing foreclosure, and fortunately, a beautiful young girl organizes a benefit performance with all the people who got their start appearing on the showboat! This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good. The poster had pinholes, creases, tears, and some areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and some creases, smudges, scuffs, and a few pinholes scattered throughout the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed by a talented restorer, who did not touch up the smudges and scuffs scattered through the poster (and I agree with that decision, because to do so would have required lots of paint, which would have given the poster a "heavily restored" look, and I don't feel the smudges and scuffs are all that distracting, and they help establish that this is a genuine 78 year-old original poster!). Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this window card that had no defects or restoration, but I do not know if another example of this card exists (or if it does, if the owner would consider parting with it!). This card has had expert restoration and displays nicely. Learn More about condition grades
