We previously auctioned a group of five similar original paintings by him, and they sold for $750. Now we are auctioning the remaining ones we have from him, a total of five, AND THERE ARE TWO OF THEM IN THIS AUCTION (and the other three are in a separate auction). One of these in this auction is actually six separate pieces of art that were matted together (see our image). These are all we have left from this great artist, so this is the last chance to purchase any of these! Measurements: from 19 1/2" x 21" to 20" x 27"Joseph McMillan Johnson (also known as Mac Johnson and J. McMillan Johnson) was a Hollywood art director from the 1930s to the 1990s. He was graduated from USC with a degree in architecture before attending Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He was working for well-known architect Kem Weber when he was hired by David O. Selznick in 1938. He worked as a sketch artist for designs on Gone with the Wind and was heavily involved with the creation of the special effects for The Wizard of Oz. He worked on most of Selznick's major productions, which included: Duel in the Sun, The Paradine Case and Portrait of Jennie (for which he won an Oscar for the visual effects). He also worked on Stormy Weather in 1943, and was a frequent collaborator with Alfred Hitchcock, and To Catch a Thief earned him another Academy Award nomination. He continued to earn Oscar nominations for The Facts of Life, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Greatest Story Ever Told and Ice Station Zebra. He retired in 1971 and passed away in 1990 at the age of 77. Note that the items in this lot are mostly from the 1940s. We do not provide a list of these items, but there are images of the front and back of each. Note that because one of these is very large, the two items will need to be sent together in a very large flat package that measures approximately 23" x 29". Please bear this in mind before bidding on this cool original art. Condition: very good. Each of the paintings was done on illustration board. Each has been matted. The paintings have some very minor scuffs or smudges (see our images). Learn More about condition grades Titles included:
