An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Calgary Stampede, the 1925 Herbert Blache silent Canada rodeo cowboy murder romantic melodrama ("Two big shows in one!"; "Here it is!! As advertised in the Saturday Evening Post"; "Filmed at the actual Calgary Stampede, Calgary Canada"; about the champion "Roman rider" of the U.S., who goes to Canada to compete in the legendary Calgary Stampede, and he falls in love with a French Canadian girl, but her father disapproves, and when the father is killed, the cowboy is blamed for the crime; he spends the rest of the movie on the run, but he manages to win the Roman race at the stampede, clear his name, and get his girl back by the end of the movie!) starring Hoot Gibson, Virginia Brown Faire, Clark Comstock, Ynez Seabury, and Jim Corey. Note that the Calgary Stampede is one of Canada's greatest tourist attractions! It began as an exhibition in 1886, transitioned to a "stampede rodeo" in 1912 (where Hoot Gibson won the steer roping contest), before finally combining the two aspects in 1923. In 1925, Hoot Gibson convinced Universal to shoot this film in Calgary, making it one of the earliest films financed and produced by a Hollywood Studio, but shot entirely outside of the U.S. Hoot was the Grand Marshall for the Parade and other events in 1925, and this film helped publicize the Calgary Stampede to international audiences, and make "stampede" synonymous with a rodeo (rather than just wild animals running amok). It steadily increased in size, and by the 1970s, attracted over a million visitors each year, and has continued to do so ever since. This film is often advertised as "Two Big Shows in One" because audiences were able to see the movie and the Stampede! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1925 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only sold a one-sheet, a Danish poster, and a lobby card from this movie (and the one-sheet was 24 years ago!) until we received this insert! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had some pinholes and small paper loss around the edges, with some small paper loss in the yellow background by Gibson's credit, and some smudges and faint stains scattered in the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
