Date Sold 12/16/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan's Courage, the 1934 Eugene Forde & George Hadden detective mystery crime thriller ("Words of wisdom his only weapons!"; "Based on novel 'The Chinese Parrot,' by Earl Derr Biggers", which had been the source novel of the 1927 Paul Leni silent Chan movie of that name, and this was a sound remake with a different actor in the lead role) starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Drue Leyton, Donald Woods, Murray Kinnell, and Paul Harvey. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this lobby card, and it sold for $675 (and we have only ever auctioned one other scene card and a title card, and no other lobby cards)! Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fine. Note that this lobby card is in excellent condition and is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card! The new owner of this card will find it hard to believe that the card was not recently created, but we assure you it is 100% original from 1934, even though it has survived so amazingly well!
