Date Sold 12/15/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Second Bureau (released in the U.S. under its original title and as "Hitler Love Spy" and also as "Spy Bureau"), the 1937 Victor Hanbury English World War I (WWI) military spy espionage romantic melodrama ("Beware of women spies"; based on the novel by Charles Robert-Dumas; about a female German spy who is assigned to kill a French male spy, but they fall in love and try to escape together, but at the end, she willingly gives her life to save his!) starring Marta Labarr, Charles Oliver, Arthur Wontner, Meinhart Maur, and Fred Groves. Note that this was a remake of a French movie made in 1935. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this English movie was called "Second Bureau", and was apparently released in the U.S. under that title. However, this card has a paper snipe glued over the original title which changes the title to "Hitler Love Spy". We don't know if it was just done at a single theater, or if this was an alternate release U.S. title for this movie (it certainly makes sense that "Second Bureau" would have meant nothing to U.S. audiences, and that "Hitler Love Spy" would have been a much more commercial title, even though the events described in the movie were of a World War I female spy, so she had nothing to do with Hitler!). It is also quite possible that this card is from a 1940s re-showing of the movie, where they had original 1937 lobby cards, and changed the title at that time through the use of the paper snipe. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There is a studio-issued title change snipe glued over the lower right title area. There is tiny paper loss and a diagonal crease in the top left blank corner, and a pinhole in the center of the left and right blank borders. Otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
