Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Mister Wu, the 1927 William Nigh silent China family relationship romantic melodrama ("From the play by Henry Maurice Vernon and Harold Owen..."; "Adaptation and continuity by Lorna Moon"; with Lon Chaney playing a dual role, as the Mandarin Mister Wu and his aged grandfather; in the movie, Mr. Wu's daughter falls in love with a Westerner, with predictable results) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (in the title role), Renee Adoree, Louise Dresser, Holmes Herbert, Ralph Forbes, and Anna May Wong. Note that Anna May Wong would have been perfect for the female lead in this movie (playing Chaney's granddaughter), but because that character had a love scene with a "white" man, MGM cast white Renee Adoree in the role (and she wore "yellowface" makeup to portray an Asian woman), so that audiences wouldn't have to see an interracial romance. Thankfully, the prejudices of that time no longer exist! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. the poster was paperbacked; prior to restoration the card was tattered around the edges with creases, smudges, and areas of paper loss, and there was a horizontal fold running across the lower part of the card through the middle of the "WU" of the title. There were also smudges, creases, and tears throughout the image area including some in Chaney's face. The poster was very expertly restored. New paper was laid over the borders and the top blank area, and the specific defects were individually corrected so that the card now has a nice appearance, yet is not heavily restored.
