Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) Singin' in the Rain, the classic 1952 Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly romantic musical comedy (considered by most the best musical of all time!; "What a glorious feeling"; "MGM's Technicolor Musical Treasure!"; "Suggested by the song 'Singin' In the Rain'"; about a Hollywood movie studio in the late 1920s that wants to begin making sound pictures, but their top leading lady has a dreadful voice, plus they have great difficulties adapting to the sound equipment; pretty young Debbie Reynolds comes along to dub in the singing voice of the primadonna leading lady, played to perfection by Jean Hagen) starring Gene Kelly (as Don Lockwood), Donald O'Connor (as Cosmo Brown), Debbie Reynolds (as Kathy Selden), Jean Hagen (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Lina Lamont), Millard Mitchell (as R.F. Simpson), and Cyd Charisse (unnamed, only referred to as "Dancer"). Note that this greatest of all Hollywood musicals had an odd beginning! The title song had been sung in "The Hollywood Revue of 1929" by Cliff Edwards, and that inspired this movie, and in addition, the song "Make 'Em Laugh" was basically plagiarized from "Be a Clown", from "The Pirate"! Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster had a hole the size of a nickel at the top crossfold and much smaller holes at the other two crossfolds. The top 10" of the vertical foldline was completely separated with some tiny tears and small paper loss in the blue background area at the top center of the image. There are many small tears in the right half of the top horizontal foldline with a few tiny areas of paper loss (there is a small circular missing piece in O'Connor's left arm). The bottom 3" of the vertical foldline was separated and there were two small areas of paper loss in the lower left blank corner. Someone put white conservation tape on the back of all the separated areas, on the back of the bottom left blank corner, and on the front of the top center of the poster. There are also some ink stains in the right center of the image area extending into the right blank border. There is some discoloration and staining in the white background areas around the credits. There are small tears and extra creases in the right of the bottom foldline. There were several pinhole in each corner. The poster is in better condition than the above makes it sound! All of the defects are the sort that are easy for a talented restorer to correct, and fortunately, the defects are primarily not in the image or titles (with the exceptions of the hole at the top crossfold and the hole in O'Connor's elbow). Once the poster is linenbacked and properly restored, its minor defects will pretty much vanish and the poster will look wonderful! (and truly not have much paint on it!)
