An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Rope (released outside the U.S. as "The Rope"), the classic 1948 Alfred Hitchcock New York City crime murder thriller ("Nothing ever held you like Alfred Hitchcock's ROPE"; "It begins with a shriek, It ends with a shot! From beginning to end nothing ever held you like Alfred Hitchcock's Rope"; "Screen play by Arthur Laurents"; "From the play by Patrick Hamilton"; loosely based on the Leopold/Loeb child murder trial; this movie had a gimmick in that the entire movie took place in what appears to be one extremely long "take"; to me, it just made it seem like watching a stage play, and took away what differentiates a movie from a stage play!) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), John Dall, Farley Granger, Cedric Hardwicke (billed as "Sir Cedric Hardwicke"), Constance Collier, Joan Chandler, (in her second movie role; one of only three movies she did in her entire career!) Douglas Dick, Dick Hogan, and Edith Evanson. Note that this was Hitchcock's first color film. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson. Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! As noted above, all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I come from this more remarkable collection (the 28 that do not were consigned to us by other collectors, and are clearly marked). This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Note that this one-sheet is from the category that Dominique Besson collected on that he labeled "Alfred Hitchcock". Condition: good to very good. The poster has fine scuff marks below the title that are mostly in the background, but which enter the girl's clothes at left and slightly touch the rope and the top of the "S" (see our image). There is a thin vertical brown stain that starts in the bottom of the "W" of "STEWART" and continues into the background below, with a few other light brown stains below that. There is a tear and tiny paper loss in the lower right blank border, and someone put a piece of tape on the back. There are tiny pinholes in the corners. After being linenbacked and having restoration done to the above defects, the poster will look great, but please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
