An Unfolded Italian Travel Poster (measures 16 3/4" x 39 1/4" [43 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Trans World Airlines (TWA) was a major American airline that existed from 1930 until 2001. With American, United, and Eastern, it was one of the "Big Four" domestic airlines in the United States. Howard Hughes acquired control of TWA in 1939, and after World War II (WWII) led the expansion of the airline to serve Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, making TWA a second unofficial flag carrier of the United States after Pan Am. In 2001, TWA filed for bankruptcy and was acquired by American Airlines. Artist: D'Eufemia & D'Amico Condition: good to very good. The poster is printed on a brown, somewhat thick paper that has become slightly brittle along portions of the edges. It has a few creases and tears of varying lengths (generally 1" or less but some are larger) along portions of some edges and small areas of paper loss at bottom, and some of the tears are repaired with tape from the back.
