An Undated (probably early 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Here Comes the Navy, the 1934 Lloyd Bacon Naval military sailor romantic love triangle comedy ("Join the world and see the Navy!"; "All the thrills and glory of the U.S. fleet... in action!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a brash young sailor who resists learning from an older experienced sailor, and there is a beautiful young woman they are both interested in; Cagney would appear in several movies with this exact same plot, but in different settings, and it was also used with many other actors) starring James Cagney, Pat O'Brien, Gloria Stuart, Frank McHugh, George Irving, Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, Robert Barrat, "and the U.S. Fleet". Note that the sailors in the movie are stationed on the U.S.S. Arizona, which just seven years later would be sunk at Pearl Harbor. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this half-sheet, and that was 22 years ago! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.
UPDATED 12/06/2019: Note that this poster is from a 1940s re-release and not the 1934 first release as we originally mentioned. Condition: good to very good. The poster had separation on both folds and someone put tape on the back of most of both folds. There was some surface paper loss on the front of the horizontal fold, and someone colored in the surface paper loss in the solid green areas, so it would be less noticeable. There were also tiny creases along both of the folds, with a 1 1/4" vertical tear in Cagney's mouth, and two 1" vertical tears in O'Brien's chin, and someone put tape on the back of those three tears. There are also some pieces of tape on the back of border tears. In spite of these defects, and slight restoration, the poster displays pretty well just as it is, or certainly, restoration could be performed. Learn More about condition grades
