An Original Vintage Folded Stage Play Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 42" [72 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) The Cherry Pickers, the 1896 stage play production ("By Joseph Arthur. Author of Blue Jeans, The Still Alarm, Lost River, On the Wabash"). Note that playwright Joseph Arthur lived from 1848 to 1906, and that this melodrama was set in Afghanistan, and featured the British Eleventh Hussars (known as The Cherry Pickers), and it starred William Harcourt, Ralph Delmore and Roselle Nott. This play was made into a film in 1914 with screenplay by Betrand Sinclair and starring Jack McDonald. The stage play poster we have seen has a great horizontal image of an Afghan prisoner firing a cannon right by a chained man and a woman, and he is shouting "Brother you are avenged!'", which makes us want to know more about the play! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster had separation and some tiny paper loss scattered on several of the folds, with a few tears along the folds. It had many small tears and tiny bits of paper loss around the edges, but mostly in the blank borders (see our image). Someone put paper tape on the back of all the borders and folds to reinforce them and mend separations. After a relatively simple linenbacking, the poster will look fantastic!
