An Original Vintage 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" Photo (Learn More) Of Mice and Men, the classic 1940 Lewis Milestone Depression era best-friends-trying-to-make-enough-to-live-a-good-life adventure melodrama ("Hollywood said it could never be made but now it's on the screen"; "I'm Lennie... I didn't mean to do no bad thing."; "I'm George... I always knowed Lennie would get us into a mess... A bad mess."; "I'm Mae... I'm straight, I tell you... Nobody's got no right to call me names."; "Sure I got a husband! He ain't never home. I got nobody to talk to... I got nobody to be with... I want to see somebody... Just see 'em and talk to 'em. I come from a nice home. I was brung up by nice people. I'm straight, I tell you. Nobody's Got No Right To Call Me Names!"; "The picture Hollywood said could never be made!"; "A mighty novel! A sensational stage success! Now! The year's most important picture!"; "A novel by John Steinbeck author of 'Grapes of Wrath'"; produced by Hal Roach; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Burgess Meredith (as George), Betty Field (as Curly's wife, Mae), Lon Chaney Jr. (as Lennie), Bob Steele (as Curly), Charles Bickford, and Roman Bohnen NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Talk about deceptive advertising! No doubt this theater was afraid that their theatergoers would be turned off by this very depressing movie, and so they entirely focused on Betty Field's trampy character, showing a giant image of her and having a long word balloon telling about her (see our image). Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 29 photos (most measure 3.5x5.25, but some measure slightly smaller) that were taken by a man who worked at a large movie theater in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He created wonderful theater fronts and homemade posters (some that were displayed outside the theater and some inside the theater), and after he finished making his displays, he would take a picture of each and then he put them in a scrapbook. It is very rare to find photos of original theater fronts and local theater displays from this time period, and this is a rare opportunity to acquire 29 different ones (each in a separate auction). Condition: very good. The photo was stapled to an album page, and there are staple holes in the corners (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
